The Teacher group will be using their half term break in UK to teach in their partner schools in Sierra Leone. They have met several times this autumn to plan for their partnership visit.
Booking flights, acquiring visas, checking documentation and booking accommodation are just a few of the tasks completed so far. Teachers have received training through the British Council for their Global Teacher Award, and have picked up lots of ideas for activities.
They will be spending the week in their partner schools, learning about education in Sierra Leone, observing their partners teaching and sharing some of their own teaching experience through activities with the children.
They will also attend a British Council Conference on the first weekend of their visit. It will be a packed programme, but they will also have the opportunity to get to know Hastings and Freetown Sierra Leone, and enjoy the company of residents at evening social events and there may even be time for some shopping and a trip to the beach for a swim.
In the first 6 weeks of , teachers will be planning their activities and collecting resources to take with them. There will also be some collaborative planning in order to run stimulating partnership workshops in February. This visit has been made possible in part through grants awarded by the British Council to allow reciprocal visits for both UK teachers and for Sierra Leone teachers.

Schools Sanitation Project gets off to a great start! Work has begun at the first four of our twinned schools to ensure they have a sustainable water supply.
There is a long way to go with securing the water supplies for all 14 of our twinned schools being only the start. Toilets and Hygiene facilities will follow but the first priority is the sustainable water supply to each. We are working with the other schools to get estimates for the work and will hopefully give the go ahead for more of them before our visit in February next year.
